About the Social Sciences & Liberal Arts program

The BS in Social Sciences and Liberal Arts is a four-year undergraduate program where students can choose to major in one of these fields: Psychology, Political Science, Media and Communication Studies, or History. Courses that comprise the Liberal Arts and sciences component of the program, taken across all four years, introduce students to a range of academic disciplines including Philosophy, Literature, Visual Arts, Mathematics, Religion, Environmental Sciences and many others. This combination of core and elective courses allows students to develop comprehensive foundational skills in reading and writing, quantitative thinking, critical enquiry, and sustained research. The Culminating Experience in the final year of the program allows each student to carry out an original research project of their own. Students choose a foreign language to study over a period of two semesters and also complete two different summer internships: one focusing on research skills and the other on social service.

Message from Chairperson

Dr. Faiza Mushtaq

Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (SSLA). We are one of the youngest departments at IBA but have already made our mark both on campus and outside it.

The department offers a four-year inter-disciplinary degree program at the undergraduate level which is notable for the rigorous breadth as well as depth it offers. Our students complete a core curriculum in their first two years in the program, which is rooted in the Liberal Arts tradition and allows them to take courses across a range of fields such as Social and Cultural Anthropology, Philosophy, Sociology, Urban Studies, English Writing and Rhetoric, Intellectual and South Asian History, Quantitative Reasoning, and two semesters of a Foreign Language. read more.
